Eating more fruits and vegetables keeps us strong and healthy.

As part of our DT curicullum this term we learn how importsnt is to eat fruits and vegetables and how to wash and cut them safely.

Firstly we washed our hands with soap and water. Then we took the fruits and vegetables and rinsed them under clean water. We rubbed them gently to remove any dirt and germs. We used small plastic knives and we cut them slowly and carefully, making sure our fingers are out of the way. Once, we finished cutting we all put the pieces in a bowl. Finally we tasted our our fresh and healthy fruits and vegetables and we talked about how they taste, feel and look.

As part of our geography curriculum, children took a guided walk around the school to explore the human features in our local environment. This hands-on learning experience helped them understand how people shape the places where we live, work and learn. During the walk, children identified various human-made structures, including buildings, roads, street signs, fences and transport system. They observed how these features contribute to everyday life, from the pathways we walk on to the playgrounds where we play. This activity encouraged children to think critically about their surroundings and appreciate the role of geography in their daily lives.

It was a fantastic opportunity to learn outside the classroom while staying active and engaged.

Year 1 have been busy exploring their creativity by making beautiful collages using a variety of art and crafts materials! They have been cutting, tearing, gluing, and layering different textures and colours to create unique and imaginative pieces.

This activity helps develop fine motor skills, encourages self-expression and allows each child to experiment with different materials.

Today in Year 1 we had an exciting activity all about writing and posting letters! The children wrote a letter to Grandfather Percival, using their best handwriting. Once the letters were finished, we carefully folded them, placed them in a big envelop and added a stamp. Then, as a class we headed outside to the school’s postbox to post them off to Mr Postmouses’s Grandfather. Everyone is eagerly looking forward to receiving his reply next week.

Year 1 enjoyed a science workshop delivered by STEMPOINT Primary workshops.

The activities were based around the circus and the children investigated all sorts of scientific skills to make things work, balance, spin to name just a few. It was great to see the children so engaged and asking questions, using scientific vocabulary.

Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to help.

In Year 1 this week we looked at ordering numbers to 10. The children chose a playing card. They then drew the spots on the ten frame to show what the number looked like. Finally, they ordered them from smallest to biggest.

In year 1 we have been learning about nouns. We learnt that nouns are names of people places and things. The children learnt that their names were proper nouns.
